Top 10 unforgettable places (by Elsa)

Now that the dust starts to settle, I start to see more clearly the places that have marked me the most. When it comes to the order of them I ranked the list the first time on the plane back to Stavanger but since then whenever I rank them again they switch places sometimes. But I still include the same ones in my top 10 and they have one thing in common: given the chance I would definitely go back in an instant.

Cape Town – definitely a wonderful surprise. From the mountains, to the white sand and blue water beaches, to the wine farms and delicious tastings, this was an amazing place to be. Add the chance to be at the most southern point in Africa (part of the old glory days from Portugal), the view from the Table Mountain, the V&A waterfont and the beautiful African penguins and this is a difficult combination to beat!

San Francisco – I always thought I would like SF and it did not disappoint. The European feel of the city, the outgoing people, the great weather and the views around the bay are the things I miss the most, together with the cute sea lions 🙂 Continue reading

Las Vegas – are we really in the desert?

We weren’t really sure how much we were going to like Vegas, we have seen plenty on TV but actually going there is always different. It turns out, it was one of the most fun places we have been to and you totally forget you are in the middle of the desert! Except in one thing, it is really hot there, on the first day I thought I was going to faint half a dozen times. In those moments I ran inside any building for the air conditioning and immediately cooled off. My throat wasn’t so happy about it the next day… Most locals just told me “honey this is nothing, you should have been here in August” and I thought “this is what slow cooking must feel like!” 😉

Kidding aside, Vegas really is all about glitz and glamour. You also get to visit a lot of different places by going into the casinos themed like NY, Venice or Paris. Even ancient Rome and Egypt are right there! They are like cities within themselves and if you don’t want to go outside, you can easily spend a few very enjoyable days at any of them without feeling bored. There are several restaurants, pools, shops, clubs and different shows every night. Then you come back the year after to another resort and enjoy totally different surroundings. The quantity of shows and quality of the artists performing in Vegas is outstanding and if our budget allowed we would have enjoyed many of them! Continue reading
